Are you ready for Mars?

Out of nowhere, I sometimes think about if our planet Earth has an expiration date. I mean, when will the resources of this planet run out? We know naman that nothing’s forever, right? And when that time comes, are we ready? What are our plans in preparation for this time? It’s never too early to prepare.

I came across this mini series in National Geographic. It’s about colonizing the planet Mars. It made me think, was this even possible? What would it be like to live in Mars?

Just for fun, I asked Anika a couple of questions about it. I asked her what does she think space is like? I also asked her what she knows about the planet Mars. She and her Tatay loves watching National Geographic so she has an idea about these things. Do you wanna see? =)

Paano kami napunta sa grilling of hotdogs and marshmallows and barbecue at Mars?! So cute! But it does make sense. The planet Mars is very close to the sun so we have an idea that it’s very hot there. We’ll grill food all day every day!

We were having fun with this question and answer activity (plus I was really curious what she thinks about living in Mars) so I prodded more. I asked if she’d like to live in Mars. Who does she think she will meet in Mars and if she knows how to speak Martian =) Hehehe.

O di ba? She speaks Martian (or Alien talk, like she said) fluently. I love how far her imagination went. From how the aliens will look like to what will happen to her iPad if she brings it with her, she was able to think about those things already. At least when that time comes that we really have to relocate there, Anika is a-ok with the idea =D

It’s fun to think about living in other planets, like in Mars. I really wish we can establish a colony there in the near future. I don’t think it’s impossible too. All these years, there have been new discoveries and innovations that lead us closer to inhabiting Mars. Have you asked yourself? Are you guys like Anika who’s open to the idea? I am.

Check out the National Geographic’s global event mini series entitled, MARS.

This drama series-slash-documentary bridges the space between science and science fiction by telling the story of mankind’s thrilling quest to colonize the Red Planet. The scripted portion of MARS follows a crew of six fictitious astronauts in the year 2033 as they travel to Mars aboard the spacecraft Daedalus – Earth’s first-ever crewed mission to the Red Planet. When the uniquely qualified Daedalus crew arrive on Mars, they explore astounding wonders and grapple with unexpected challenges as they work to set up humanity’s first colony on the Distant Planet.

MARS also showcases an unprecedented collection of interviews with the world’s leading scientific minds. As the fictional story of the Daedalus crew unfolds, television audiences will hear real interviews with some of the most fascinating people on Earth, including astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson; business magnate and inventor Elon Musk; Andy Weir, author of The Martian (adapted into an Oscar-nominated film starring Matt Damon);  and former NASA astronauts Charles Bolden, John Grunsfeld and James Lovell.

But wait! I highly suggest you to watch first National Geographic’s digital short film Before MARS.

Before MARS tells the story of Hana and Joon Seung, identical twin sisters who will grow up to be central characters in the ongoing global event series, MARS. In the film, Hana and Joon learn a lesson in the meaning of ‘home’ that will stay with them for the rest of their lives and shape who they grow up to become.

This mini series is very interesting, I tell you. It opens up the probability of actually living in the planet Mars. Life in the Red Planet is actually closer in reality compared to before.

Tune in to MARS on National Geographic.
