I’ve always said that breastmilk is best for babies. I’ve always wished to have breastfed Anika more.
Why?
If you are a parent like me, you will understand the feeling of always wanting to give the best for your kids. As in all the time. We want to give them the best clothes, food, education, toys and chances in life. Innate na sa atin yun.
This is why I get agitated when Anika does not eat well. Nakakaloka. Even though if I’m so tired already from work, I stay with her for more than an hour at the dinner table just to make sure she finishes her food. If you have a child, you would know that this is not an easy task. There will be drama, begging and bribering. Ang daming tawaran na mangyayari.”Last subo na please Nanay!”. “Last 3? No! Last 1!”
Ganyan.
If you have kids like mine who are very difficult to feed, here are my tips for you:
One, find recipes of food online where they “hide” the nutritious ingredients like vegetables in the dish so kids won’t be able to taste them so much. Samples of these nutritious food and snacks can be seen here, here and here.
Two, create bento boxes like I do =) Search for #AnikasbaonToday at Instagram for ideas.
Three, try to make dinner fun for them. Anika and I play question and answer while eating. I ask her questions like “Who is your favorite friend in the classroom?”, “If you can go to anywhere in the world, where will you go?” or “If you can have a super power, what will it be?”
Four, try to make them help in cooking the dish. This can inspire them to eat their “cooking”.
Five, experiment on dips. I did this before with Anika. I put thin slices of carrots with honey mustard dressing on the side. She liked it.
Six, this is quite difficult for me because I dislike veggies too, be an example for them. Eat veggies too while eating with them. They should see that you’re eating good food too otherwise hindi din sila kakain nun.
Lastly, give them milk. Since I was a kid, I have often been told that milk is a nutritious drink that can do wonders for our health.
Milk is a great source of calcium that can give us strong bones and teeth. Because of the protein found in milk, drinking it can help you improve muscle growth. From some of my readings, I learned that “researchers have found that milk helps prevent many different diseases. This includes its ability to help lower high blood pressure and reduce the risk of strokes. In addition, milk has the ability to reduce the production of cholesterol by your liver, and helps improve eyesight. There are some researchers who believe that milk can also reduce the risk of developing certain forms of cancer.” (source)
In our case, I make Anika drink milk as supplement to her meals. She also drinks warm milk in the evening to help her get ready for bedtime.
We get the Selecta Fortified Milk for Anika and I.
What makes this Selecta milk different from other milk out there is that it’s 100% Fortified with more vitamins and minerals to provide the daily nutritional needs of everyone in the family.
Because it’s 100% Fortified, with just one glass your child gets: 100% Vitamin A, Vitamin B2, B6, B12 and Vitamin D3. Each glass is also rich in Calcium, Protein, Magnesium, and Vitamin B1 & B3. Adults can drink this too and get the same nutrients!
