Thank God my blog’s back!

Like what I said in my IG post today, it is during times like these when I realize how much I’ve invested in my blog na. I’ve invested a lot of time, effort, money and stories. I have met so many wonderful people especially my blog readers through this blog. The whole seven years of me being a mom’s written here: my feelings, fears, anxieties, triumphs, joy and sadness. Nandito talaga lahat.

So I panicked last weekend because a lot of you were messaging me that they can’t access my blog. I asked my two very reliable mommy IT friends about it but they can’t find anything wrong. It was only then when I realized that my domain has expired already. Hindi ko alam. I paid for it yesterday. I was trying to contact the people behind it kaso tanghali na ako nakakuha ng kausap. The blog was activated agad agad right after.

All the while while I was waiting for the contact person to answer my calls, grabe na ang anxiety ko. I thought nagsara na sila. I cannot afford to lose my blog or my domain for that matter. Napamahal na talaga both sa akin eh. And I want Anika to be able to read everything here someday. If ever (knock on wood) God takes me from this world early, at least Anika can have something to remember me by. Yan naman talaga ang pinaka-main reason ko why I blog. I don’t like Anika to forget me if I die early.

Ang morbid.

Anyway, before I tell you about our recent trip and my other kwentos, I have to tell you first about the vaccine na minadali ko makuha for Anika.

Anika’s complete with all her vaccines. We are doing the catch up immunization na lang now. Pero from the moment she was born, kumpleto yan. Praning ako sa ganyan, mga beh.

Remember there was this dad whose daughter died and he posted something in Facebook that went viral? The father’s name is Arch. Neil Licayan and he lost his 15 year old daughter to suspected Encephalitis. There is no cure daw but this disease could have been prevented by the Japanese Encephalitis (JE) vaccine.

When I took Anika to her pedia to have her injected with that vaccine, I asked her about it. She said that her fellow pediatricians are thanking Arch. Licayan for posting in Facebook and creating an awareness about the JE vaccine.

The Japanese encephalitis daw is an infection caused by the Japanese encephalitis virus. From the website of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:

  • It occurs mainly in rural parts of Asia.
  • It is spread through the bite of an infected mosquito. It does not spread from person to person.
  • Risk is very low for most travelers. It is higher for people living in areas where the disease is common, or for people traveling there for long periods of time.
  • Most people infected with JE virus don’t have any symptoms. Others might have symptoms as mild as a fever and headache, or as serious as encephalitis (brain infection).
  • A person with encephalitis can experience fever, neck stiffness, seizures, and coma. About 1 person in 4 with encephalitis dies. Up to half of those who don’t die have permanent disability.
  • It is believed that infection in a pregnant woman could harm her unborn baby.

Scary, right?

This is why the Philippine Pediatric Society along with the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of the Philippines and the Philippine Foundation for Vaccination (PFV) updated the 2017 Childhood Immunization Schedule of 2017.

They included na the JE vaccine and the Dengue vaccine.

Dati daw kasi JE and Dengue vaccines were just optional but since madami na yung namamatay because of these diseases, sinama na nila sa required vaccines for children.

Thank you Smart Parenting for the chart. I got this from their website.

So gets niyo na why nagmadali talaga ako to have Anika vaccinated with the JE vaccine? Better safe than sorry and besides, I don’t risk anything regarding my daughter’s health.

Ka-praning ko pa naman sa ganyan.
