Anika’s First Cheerdancing Gig

One weekday last February, I spent the whole day at Anika’s school because of their cheering competition.

Apparently, she auditioned to be a cheerdancer and got in. I was so proud of her. First love niya talaga is dancing. Together with her gymnastics skills, she makes a good cheerdancer. They practiced and practiced. Nakakatuwa.

On the day, we arrived at her school early because I had to do her make up. May instructions naman. I googled, prayed that I can copy what I watched in youtube and then proceeded to do her make up.

Sa dilim because wala pang araw when we arrived in her school.

Hindi naman sa pagyayabang, pero albeit hindi siya perfectly pantay, I think I did a good job.

The most important thing is that Anika loved it. In her eyes, ako ang pinakamagaling na make up artist ever.

I was mighty proud of her when I watched her. Ang galing talaga sumayaw ng anak ko. Natural. I hope she doesn’t forget about dancing. I told her kasi that when she’s doing hardcore volleyball varsity na, baka hindi na siya makapagcheerdancing gigs. The practices conflict with her training. And ang Tatay niya would like her to be an athlete more than to be a dancer.

Ayun na nga, they did really well. They were the babies in the competition so expectedly, they didn’t win. It was their first time to join eh. It’s okay though.

I can’t stress it enough na it’s very important to be there in our kids’ performances. Sabi nga nung isang mommy friend ko, when they go on stage, parents nila ang unang una nilang hahanapin. Totoo naman. I am thankful that so far, in all her performances, I was there. Nagli-leave talaga ako sa work. And everytime Anika takes her position, I can see her scanning the audience for me and Alvin. Pagnakita niya na kami, game face na siya and does her thing.

Right after the cheering competition, she went to where I was sitting. Alam ko na that she felt bad that they lost. Feel na feel ko na. Kaya pumunta siya sa akin para umiyak because she felt upset. Instead of being bitter, sinalubong ko siya ng embrace and I told her they did real good for rookies. Ang galing kako. I told her that I know she feels upset but she should know that even if they didn’t win this time, they have all other years to make bawi. Lagi kako older batches yung nananalo kaya don’t be super sad na. The important thing is that they did their best. That she did her best. And for me, ang galing nila.

After the cheering competition, we stayed pa in school because Anika wanted to go around pa the school fair. That was the story of my life that day (and the day after that). Antay lang ako ng antay sa kanya. Keribelles. Minsan lang ako magpaka-full time mom sa kanya.

I took this photo while we were waiting for her friends. I am at awe how big she has grown already. Where is my baby girl?!?!?!? Wahhhh! Dalaga na kaloka.

I brought her to Wowa afterwards. I asked Wowa to bring her home because I had plans with Coach Vita and my former volleyball teammates for dinner. I love that Wowa’s retired already. Haha!

Again, feel na feel ni Anika ang make up niya lelz.
