In the midst of the bustling city of Toronto, you will find a castle called Casa Loma.
At first, I thought Casa Loma was a castle where the king and queen resided. Hindi nama pala. Casa Loma was a chateau residence of this wealthy businessman/ financier/soldier Sir Henry Mill Pellat in the early 1900s. Sir Henry was a very rich man who was known as the man who brought hydro-electricity in Toronto for the first time.
Casa Loma was designed by Toronto’s Architect E.J. Lennox and was built in 1911 to 1914 by 300 men. It is the largest private residence in Canada.
For years, super yaman ni Sir Henry who had a wife named, Mary Dodgson. However, eventually, the couple made some bad business decisions and na-bankrupt sila. They were forced to move out of their house in 1924.
After Sir Henry moved out of the house, kung sino sino na ang nagmanage ng Casa Loma. In 1997 to 2012, Casa Loma underwent various rerestoration funded by the city. Now, it’s a famous tourist destination managed by a private company.
This is the facade of Casa Loma. It has 98 rooms and 30 bathrooms.
This is the library and grand ballroom.
This is the conservatory.
This is the serving room where the servants put the food before they are brought to the main dining room.
This is the Oak Room and it is the most decorated room in the house.
This is Lady Pallet’s huge bedroom! It’s bigger than Sir Henry’s bedroom. Part of her bedroom is this sitting room.
This was where she slept.
She also had a terrace overlooking the court below.
This was Sir Henry’s bedroom. Yeah. They had separate bedrooms before. It was normal.
One of the room that fascinated me was the Round Room. It was in perfect round shape. Even the windows and doors were curved!
If you were wondering what that hand held telephone like contraption that Anika and I were carrying the whole time, that’s from the museum. You punch in the number displayed in each room then you can hear the description about it. Astig =)
Casa Loma’s not bad for my first ever castle visit!
