We’re complete again!

We arrived from Anika’s SG-Legoland birthday trip last Good Friday. Come Easter Sunday, we brought Alvin to the airport to catch his flight to Singapore for his 6 day business trip.

After 12 long years, Alvin recently started a new job with a new company. Ang tagal namin pinag-isipan ito. He was debating if he should resign from his previous employer eh ang tagal na niya dun. Gamay na gamay na din niya ang work. However, the offer of this new company was very hard to refuse, financially and career-wise. Apart from the anda, what I like about his new job is the training that Alvin will get both personally and technically. The main office of his work now is based in Singapore and his bosses and colleagues are foreigners. Gusto ko yung magiging parang pang international ang business ethics niya. Step up talaga.

Alvin was apprehensive in accepting the offer at first because of the change. There will going to be a big change talaga. He will be busier. Bagong pa-bibo. Bagong pakikisama. And he will travel a lot. That is the hardest thing for him daw, being away from me and Anika. But you know,

Great opportunities = Great responsibilities = Sacrifices

Yan.

I told him to go for it. He was looking forward to the challenge. I told him I am here to back him up. We are thankful that we are in a situation na pwedeng sumugal si Alvin sa work. I am all for career growth even if that means tiis tiis muna wag magshopping. Magtatabi ng magtatabi muna ako for back up kasi hindi natin alam what will happen dito sa new job. Sigurista dapat. But I totally believe in Alvin. Magaling yang taong yan. He can do the job. I can feel it!

Alvin was very excited on his first day of work. Ang bongga naman kasi. His first task on his first day was to report to their office in Singapore and attend the training for 5 days. His flight was at 9am the day before he was to report to his new boss. We shopped for a lot of business attire outfits and shoes the week before that. I was surprised on the morning of his flight, he went out of our room wearing a long sleeves top, pants, nice shoes and a business coat. Pawis na pawis.

ME: O, may meeting ka na agad later sa Singapore?

ALVIN: Wala.

ME: Bakit yan suot mo?

ALVIN: Ganito na ako ngayon.

Ikaw na. Hahahaha!

He was a bundle of nerves before he left. I was so agit also. Ang stage wife ko kasi. But I feel for Alvin. This will be all very new to him again. After 12 years, he will start again in a company. Nakakatakot yun. He’s so out of his comfort zone.

He was gone for 6 days. Hindi cool. Ang pathetic man to hear but I was so sad at home the whole time. The house was very different without Alvin. Ang tahimik. Hindi ako na-aannoy lagi. Walang alaskador. I don’t like it.

ANIKA (while we were trying to sleep): Nanay, I miss Tatay’s tickles. He tickles me every night.

Hay.

What I also don’t like when Alvin’s away is being the only “adult” at home. I do not know how the wives of OFWs do it here. Parang double the responsibility because Alvin’s not around physically to help me look after Anika and our house. Ang lakas pala maka-single mother if your husband works abroad. You do not have anybody to immediately share your kwento with. Although thanks to the technology we were able to talk via video calls often, ang baduy kausap ang asawa over the phone. You can’t hug him. You can’t kiss him. You can’t snuggle. Baduy.

Don’t even get me started on no sex.

Anika’s drama didn’t help either.

ANIKA: Nanay can I go to your office with you?

ME: No anak. I have a meeting with the Meralco people tomorrow.

ANIKA (shedding a tear): But I miss Tatay so much.

Sabi ko nga sumama siya.

It was only that day I realized I got played. Ang saya niya talaga the whole day eh. She wasn’t that sad. It was only when I told her that Alvin will go to another business trip again soon when she got quiet. We were in the car in the parking lot of a mall. Before I knew it, we were sniffling. We were both crying! Hahahahaha! We’re so clingy to Alvin.

Today, when I arrived home from Batangas, Alvin was having breakfast. I gave him the biggest hug ever!

Everything’s back to normal again at the Sombrero house.

=)

Good luck to Alvin in his new endeavor! Good luck to us! Bow.
