Anika called me from school before lunch yesterday.

ANIKA (whispering): Nanay, I don’t feel good.

ME: Why are you whispering?

ANIKA: I went to the bathroom so I can call you. Bawal phone sa school.

ME: Okay. Go to the clinic and let them take your temperature.

She was absent na from school last Monday. Nilagnat kasi nung umaga. She didn’t have fever the whole day so I made her go to school na the next day (which was yesterday).

I was having lunch at Bonchon in Dasma with my officemates when Anika called again.

ANIKA (whispering): Nanay, I’m in the clinic already. Please pick me up.

ME: Why? Sick ka nga daw? What’s your temperature?

ANIKA: Oh yea. Wait. I will ask them. I will put my phone in my pocket ha so that they won’t see I have my phone. Bawal kasi. Don’t put it down.

Hanep sa criminal tendencies.

After a while..

ANIKA: Nanay, blah blah blah blah.

Hindi ko gets.

ME: Anika, please tell the nurse to call me.

A few minutes after that, the school clinic called me. Anika’s temperature daw is 37.8 degrees Celcius. Paki sundo daw.

Good thing I was in the area na.

Coach Vita, my volleyball coach, was there by the Grade School building when we arrived. She’s one of Anika’s godmothers. She went with us to the clinic and guided me on what to do. In fairness, hindi madali mag-uwi ng bata in CSA. You have to fill out so many forms and go to a process before you are able to bring your kid home. I love it. It’s safe.

She didn’t go to school today. Alvin said to observe her muna. If she doesn’t get any fever the whole day today, pasok na siya tomorrow.

Nag-inarte ang bagets this morning. She wants to go to school daw. I asked her why.

ANIKA: It’s my dance club today! Waahhhhh!

ME: Anak, if you dance today and you’re not well yet, mabibinat ka. Sige ka. You’ll miss more classes!

ANIKA: I don’t want to be absent ng absent! They might replace me as class president!

Ayown.

I haven’t told you guys about it because I wanted to confirm it muna.

Anika won Class President in their class. Apparently, they had an election last week. It’s so cute because I cannot imagine 7 year olds doing the process of nominating and electing their class officers. When I went home last Friday, Anika told me that she was voted Class President. Medyo hindi muna ako naniwala agad but I didn’t show it naman. Nagmana din kasi itong anak ko sa akin ng pagka-exaggerated. When we attended her classmate’s birthday party last Saturday, one of the parents there confirmed nga na Anika’s the Class President. Her son daw made kwento that they voted and all.

The class daw wrote in a piece of paper the name of their classmate who they want to win for a specific officer position. Anika won the president position by that process. She later on told me that she campaigned daw. She made a lot of friends daw and she told them that she wants to be their class president. That’s great, sabi ko. Okay ito. Student body officer material. I’m so proud of her. Sana tuloy tuloy na until she grows up.

So ayun. She’s the class president again this year. She takes her job seriously ha. She really helps her teachers discipline her classmates. I’m glad Anika has leadership skills. I will hone them na lang as she grows older. Ayoko naman sobrang KJ siya na officer. Gusto ko tamang tama lang na leadership skills otherwise, madami maiinis sa kanya. Di ba? =)

Good luck to my baby girl! =)
